Henrik Follesø Egeland — Noise Floor

The book launch and exhibition Noise Floor by Henrik Follesø Egeland were presented at Pachinko on Thursday 21 August (19:00–21:00) and Friday 22 August (10:00–15:00), at Grønlandsleiret 47C, Oslo.

Taking the repair and servicing of a 1970s tape recorder as its point of departure, Noise Floor intersected the development of recording technologies with ideas of sonic presence. Using the repair manual as a structuring device, the publication combined appropriated advertising language with the artist’s own writing, alongside technical photography and photographic abstraction. Through this interplay of materials and voices, the work examined notions of a “sonic self” in relation to the recording industry’s pursuit of increased sensitivity and reduced noise.

Henrik Follesø Egeland (b. 1994) is an Oslo-based visual artist and photographer. He is a graduate from the Oslo National Academy of Arts (MFA / 2020-22) as well as the University of Roehampton (BFA / 2014-17). Through an exploration of photography, text and sound, his work investigates how we know where we are – grounded in cultural imaginations of time and place.
